There are few games of which I have better memories than The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. I bought it twice for my Game Boy (after my original copy was, speaking generously, appropriated by a friend).
My best memory, though, is sat in the bathroom very early on a Saturday morning trying desperately to vanquish the boss of the seventh dungeon. I never have done without a bit of a cheat – I always take the tool from the eighth dungeon, once I can get there, and go back to defeat it.
Today’s news that Link’s Awakening is being remade for the Nintendo Switch is stirring; I’m excited to play it again. I hear the call of the Windfish, beckoning me to return to Koholint Island.
